NCAA baseball regional sites spread among 7 conferences

  • For first time since 1973, Miami baseball not in NCAAs

The road to Omaha starts at home for the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky baseball teams.

LSU players pile on in celebration after defeating Arkansas in the championship game of the Southeastern Conference NCAA college baseball tournament, Sunday, May 28, 2017, in Hoover, Ala.

The Red Raiders - who are one of 16 regional hosts, along with Big 12 rival TCU - will learn their three opponents, along with whether they earned a national seed, at 11 a.m. Monday when the 64-team field is announced during the NCAA Selection Show televised on ESPN2.

Clemson was one of five ACC schools chosen to host a regional, joining Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina and Wake Forest.

Other ACC teams selected as regional hosts are newly crowned tournament champions Florida State, Louisville and Clemson.

After naming no regional hosts from the West Coast last season, the NCAA rewarded Oregon State (49-4), Long Beach State (37-17-1) and Stanford (40-14) with No. 1 seeds in the regional rounds.

LeBron James breaks Michael Jordan's playoff scoring record
James was far from alone, though, as Irving, Love and even Deron Williams took turns exposing Boston's overmatched defense. It's an indication that despite still being in a dire 3-1 hole, the resolve inside Boston's locker room remains strong.

Other hosts are Southern Mississippi (Conference USA), Long Beach State (Big West) and Houston of (American Athletic Conference).

Last year, the westernmost regional was in Lubbock, Texas. Similarly, it would not be surprising to see a team like West Virginia or SC as a two or three seed in the Winston-Salem region. They have hosted Regionals in seven of the last nine seasons.

UF will be hosting NCAA Regional action for the eighth time in 10 seasons under head coach Kevin O'Sullivan.

It's just the second time in the past eight seasons the Cavaliers haven't been a host. Texas Tech (43-15) and TCU (42-16) will host as well - both hosted past year, too.

It is the second time in school history Tech has hosted an NCAA Regional in back-to-back years, also doing so in 1996-97, and the fifth overall. That possibility all but became nonexistent over the regular season's final two weekends as MSU lost two out of three games at Georgia before being swept at home by LSU. Stanford (40-14) and Southern Mississippi (48-13) are the other teams most heavily discussed with United Kingdom getting one of the last national seeds.
