  • Texas mom arrested after 2 children die in hot car during ‘lesson

The Parker County Sheriff's Office arrested Cynthia Marie Randolph, 24, for the deaths last month of her 2-year-old daughter and 16-month-old son after she left them in the auto to teach her daughter a lesson, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

"Please send a thank you to [the] Parker County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers from the Ramirez family", the children's father said in a statement to CBS DFW. A bond has not been set, and we don't know whether or not she's hired an attorney.

Police say during the investigation she admitted she left her kids in the auto to "teach them a lesson.". The investigators involved in the case believe Randolph was exclusively responsible for the death of her two children.

When she later discovered the kids, Randolph broke a auto window "to make it look like an accident", according to the television station.

But after being questioned again by investigators, Randolph told them several different versions of the events that transpired on May 26.

Those children died last month.

In 2017 alone, 13 children have died from being locked inside cars and suffering heat stroke, according to San Jose State University professor Jan Null.

WEATHERFORD, Texas (AP) - Texas authorities say a 24-year-old woman has been charged in the deaths of her two children who were found inside a hot auto last month outside the family's home.

The sheriff's office was alerted to the incident around 4 p.m., when temperatures outside had reached 96 degrees.

Randolph stated she was inside her residence folding laundry and watching television, as the children played in an enclosed back porch, visible from the living room. "The defendant said she was asleep for two or three hours". She said approximately 20 to 30 minutes had passed when she realized she had not heard the children.

Around 4:30 p.m., medical responders who had arrived pronounced her children dead.

When she woke, she went to check on the children and found them unresponsive.

The Dallas News reported that Randolph called Parker County deputies out to her house "in the 200 block of Rambling Loop" on May 26 following the death of her two children.
