Senate Judiciary Committee Has Former AG Loretta Lynch on Their Mind

  • Judiciary committee asks Lynch to disclose Clinton email conversations

Dianne Feinstein, the panel's senior Democrat, sent a letter to Lynch this week requesting information.

The panel cited reports in The New York Times and the Washington Post that the Federal Bureau of Investigation obtained hacked documents that suggested Lynch assured Renteria would not "go too far".

"During your time in the Justice Department, did you ever have communications with Rep. Wasserman Schultz, her staff, her associates, or any other current or former DNC officials about the Clinton email investigation?"

Senators investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election are now seeking more information about the firing of FBI Director James Comey, and the Clinton email investigation. Lynch tried to shape the way he talked about the investigation into Mrs. Clinton's emails, and he also hinted at other behavior "which I can not talk about yet" that made him anxious about Ms. Amanda Renteria, the person Lynch allegedly told, says she doesn't know Lynch and has never spoken to her.

Although both Lynch and Bill Clinton have denied they discussed the email probe during their private meeting and instead made small talk about golf and Clinton's grandchildren, both received intense blowback over creating the appearance of impropriety during an ongoing investigation. Democrats still managed narrower margins than usual in all four districts, and they hope that bodes well for next year's midterms. In South Carolina's special election yesterday, Republican Ralph Norman defeated Democrat Archie Parnell by just 3 points .

Fired FBI Director James Comey has said publicly that Lynch tried to manipulate the way in which he referred to the criminal investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server when she was Secretary of State.

The Washington Post claimed that by August of 2016, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was confident the Russian report was a forgery. And Debbie Wasserman Schultz denies having recounted any such conversation in an email. "If so, please describe the communications and provide all records relating to them", the committee's letter to Lynch asked.

He also told lawmakers that he was concerned that Lynch could be impartial in overseeing the FBI investigation, although he declined to offer more details. The Judiciary Committee is now interested in probing the allegations.

Lynch and former president Bill Clinton (center-right) met on an airport tarmac in Arizona past year, but insisted they never discussed Hillary's pending case.

President Donald Trump fired Comey on May 9, citing a memo by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation director of mishandling the Clinton email probe, among other things.
