  • More reports of swelling iPhone 8 Plus batteries emerge

The iphone 8 has been in the market just for a week and the users have already reported the phone to be bursting open. Since the phones have only been on sale for a few weeks, it's early in the life of the device.

Reuters has reported that a Chinese man's iPhone 8 Plus cracked open before the unit had been charged, and similar cases have been reported in Taiwan and Japan. There was another case in Greece.

An Apple spokesperson said the company was now looking into the issue, but the company has not elaborated further at the time of writing.

Numerous analyst reports have speculated that the company's new OLED-screen handset will be in very short supply because of manufacturing issues related to its new display and the new facial-recognition security technology. "In general, first iterations of new products come with the possibility of unintended hardware defects, software issues or firmware troubles".

These reports are coming in from different corners of the world, though the number of people reporting battery swelling problems is small for now. It's also still unclear whether this will cause a domino-effect where phones will have to be recalled or not. Jaffe, a battery industry analyst, says manufacturers have reached a limit with lithium-ion battery capacity and could end up producing designs with a bigger risk of short circuiting in an attempt to store more power. In past when reports of iPhone6 Plus bending emerged, Apple diplomatically said, "With normal use, a bend in iPhone is extremely rare and through our first six days of sale, a total of nine customers have contacted Apple with a bent iPhone 6 Plus".

Apple has stated that they are "aware (of the issue) and are looking into it".

KitGuru Says: Battery swelling isn't almost as bad as them spontaneously lighting up and burning.

It may appear that the problem may not be widespread, but nowadays everyone is pretty attentive to such incidents in the wake of the exploding Galaxy Note 7 situation.
