Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today visited Nathu La area on the Sino-India border and interacted with Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police officials. The Minister also greeted the Chinese soldiers on the other side of Nathu La with "namaste".

Two short videos of the meeting were posted on the minister's official Twitter account on Sunday.

"But Sitharaman's traditional "Namastey" greetings to the Chinese soldiers sent another signal to the public that might not erase the first impression, but may at least balance things out", it added.

China will continue to build the road in Doklam and India's strong reaction to the "logical" construction is "eccentric", a Chinese daily said on Monday.

Soon after pictures of her waving at Chinese soldiers went viral on social media, the Defence Minister posted another tweet with a video of her interaction with Chinese soldiers. "Such a courageous woman", wrote Tu Yueyue on Weibo.
