  • Taliban attacks Kandahar Army base in Afghanistan, kills 43 soldiers

Reports said two Taliban suicide bombers in Humvee trucks targeted the military base.

At least 43 Afghan soldiers have been killed in a Taliban suicide attack on a military base in southern Afghanistan.

Two other attacks on security forces Wednesday claimed lives - as The Washington Post reported, "Taliban fighters killed nine police officers late Wednesday in the western Farah province during attacks on police posts there and killed six policeman in an ambush in the northern Balkh province".

Among the dead in those attacks were at least 36 members of the Afghan security forces, including a senior provincial police commander.

Taliban fighters then assaulted the facility, setting off several hours of fighting that killed almost every Afghan soldier there and wounded nine. "They have burned down everything they found inside", defence ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said. Other militants pushed in and started a firefight with army soldiers.

Militants were once again attacking a police base in Ghazni on Thursday, but officials did not have information on casualties.

North Korea: 'The Entire US Mainland Is Within Our Firing Range'
We must, however, with our allies, Japan and South Korea and elsewhere, be prepared for the worst should diplomacy fail", he said. President Trump has recently tweeted that attempts to negotiate with North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-un, are a "waste of time".

But the Taliban said the recent assaults were a "clear message to the Americans and the Kabul government, that they can not scare us with their new so-called strategy".

"After the explosion, we heard shootings, and then more explosions".

This came a day after the Taliban attacked Paktia police headquarters. The battle ended with a USA airstrike that killed nine Taliban fighters, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation officials said.

They said the attackers detonated at least one explosive-packed Humvee vehicle and razed the compound in the early morning assault.

Eighty people were killed and 300 wounded in attacks on Tuesday in Afghanistan's southeast - the bloodiest day in the war-torn country in nearly five months.
