Adding fuel to the latest controversy was news on Monday that Netflix will soon end the landmark political drama "House of Cards", which stars Spacey as a corrupt and closeted bisexual USA president.

Less than a day after announcing that House of Cards would end after the upcoming sixth season, Netflix has suspended production on the new season indefinitely.

Variety has learned that the streaming service and producer Media Rights Capital are in very early stages of development on multiple ideas for a potential spinoff.

An Oscar victor for "The Usual Suspects" and "American Beauty", Spacey is best known lately for his role as the ruthless fictional president Frank Underwood in "House of Cards". Spacey also came out as gay in the statement, which was criticized by many as an attempt to deflect from the allegation.

The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced in a statement that it was withdrawing the International Emmy Founders Award it planned to give Spacey on November 20 "in light of recent events". Spacey said he did not remember the encounter, but was "beyond horrified" to hear Rapp's account. In the interview with BuzzFeed, Rapp said the incident occurred when he attended a party at Spacey's home in 1986. "I created a House of Cards 30 years ago and up to this point it has been an exhilarating and totally joyous journey", Dobbs told Deadline.

The two-time Oscar victor later took to Twitter to respond to the allegations.

Unruh declined to provide further details other than to tell the Globe, "If a woman who saw what happened didn't tell [the alleged victim] to run while Spacey got up to go to the bathroom, I don't even want to think about what would've happened".

Meanwhile, The Old Vic Theatre in London has said it is "deeply dismayed" by the sexual advance allegation made against Spacey, who was the theatre's artistic director from 2003 to 2015.

"That said, I take reports of such behaviour seriously and this is no exception. I feel for Mr. Rapp and I support his courage".
