  • Razer Phone Launched – Thick Bezels & Colossal Specifications

Ten months after acquiring smartphone maker Nextbit, Gaming company Razer has finally revealed its first smartphone device.

Pre-orders are now available for the Razer Phone, which costs $700 / €750 / £700.

In terms of power, the Razer Phone boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform supported by 8GB RAM. Speaking of which, Android Nougat 7.1.1 is the default, with an Oreo update coming in the spring.

He continued: "We have wanted to make a phone with gaming-level tech for years, and the Razer Phone delivers in every way we imagined".

But if you don't want to eat through that big phone battery by playing games at insane speeds, Razer has brought over another big feature from PC gaming: Choice. If you are looking to extend the battery life of the massive 4,000 mAh battery in the phone, you can also choose to reduce the resolution of the phone from its 1440p to 720p or 1080p which will make it a reliable gaming device on the go.

For those who like Razer's traditional luminescent colours, there will be a Limited Edition model with a bright green logo. Well the firm's own webstore will be selling it from November 17 for an RRP of $699; that's SIM-free and unlocked. The Razer Phone can also be reserved on Razerzone.com in launch countries.

Apart from the display, the new Razer Phone also sports stereo front-facing speakers with dual amplifiers and THX certified DAC.

According to Razer's CEO Min-Liang Tan, the device's 120-hertz ultra-fast refresh rate - the rate only present in iPad Pro which Apple calls it to be "the most advanced display on the plant" - will avoid motion lag, ghosting and stuttering. Instead, you can plug headphones in via the Type-C USB port and a 3.5mm-to-Type-C adaptor is bundled-in with the phone. Dual rear 12 megapixel cameras provide wonderful images at almost any distance. Most people already have the phone they want, and I'm curious to see how many will be wooed by nothing more than an (really nice) 120Hz display and the promise of Android gaming.

"Right now there's one phone design", Tom Moss Senior Vice President of Mobile at Razer told Gizmodo. Made with a sturdy metal, it has a matte black finish around the front and back of the phone - as well as, of course, the brand's logo.

Gaming giant Razer had been rumoured to be working on a smartphone for some time. However, the device, complete with its 1440x2560 and 120Hz variable refresh rate screen, has clearly been designed with gamers in mind.

But all of this is just conjecture until we get our hands on it.
