All of her wealthy victims were older than 70, and she met some of them through dating sites for wealthy singles.

70-year-old Japenese woman has been sentenced to death for the murder of three men, including her husband, and another attempted murder.

Kakehi earned the nickname "Black Widow" for her comparisons with the spider that kills its mate after copulation.

Chisako Kakehi has been sentenced to hanging after using cyanide to kill her lovers and make millions from insureance payments.

The judge said that her acts were serial murders by poisoning with the aim of acquiring inheritances or escaping from debts. Once named the beneficiary of life insurance policies and wills, Kakehi killed Masanori Honda, 71, and Minoru Hioki, 75, and tried to kill Toshiaki Suehiro, 79, prosecutors said.

Her lawyers plan to appeal, "suggesting the high-profile trial could yet drag on", the website adds.

During the trial Kakchi admitted to killing Isao Kakehi, saying he had not treated her well financially, but later retracted it. But following his death in 1994, the business went bankrupt and her house was put up for auction, prompting her to ask neighbors for a loan.

Kentucky State Police Master Trooper Jeremy Hodges said he could not release details of the assault because of security issues. However, Boucher is an anesthesiologist and pain specialist in Bowling Green, who developed a product called Therm-a-Vest.

Kakehi was first arrested in November 2014 and indicted the following month on a charge of killing her husband, who died at the couple's home in Muko, Kyoto Prefecture, in December 2013, about a month after their marriage.

"It was a heinous crime driven by greed for money".

Although she was aware of the toxicity of the cyanide compounds, she gave them to the four men by putting the substances in capsule form so that they looked like supplements, the judge said.

But the defence argued that much of the case rested on circumstantial evidence, and there was no evidence directly pinning Kakehi to the deaths - including how she had obtained and stored the cyanide.

The judge rejected the claim of Kakehi's innocence by her defense team, which said that the deaths of the three men might have been due to illness or accident.

She subsequently lost most of her fortune through unsuccessful financial trading. Having opened in June, it was the second-longest of its kind, with 135 days spent examining the case.
