Ridley Scott's All The Money In The World will no longer feature Spacey as oil tycoon John Paul Getty and instead the role is being recast with Christopher Plummer. It's not an entirely impossible task to redo his scenes, as much of the film focuses on Michelle Williams as Gail Harris and Mark Wahlberg as Fletcher Chase, Getty's assistant.

According to Deadline, which first reported the news, Christopher Plummer will replace Spacey in the film's most prominent supporting role. The film tells the story of J. Paul Getty's ordeal following his son's kidnapping.

A MA woman on Wednesday accused Spacey of sexually assaulting her 18-year-old son on the holiday island of Nantucket last year and said police had opened a criminal investigation.

Ridley Scott has axed Kevin Spacey from his latest big screen outing 'All The Money In The World', just over a month before it's due to hit cinema screens. That move resulted after a weekend of back and forth, with Scott and Friedkin in particular incensed that the sordid allegations against Spacey might doom a film that Scott dropped everything to direct, and on which so many people worked hard and did not deserve to see the results hobbled in the marketplace because of the taint of scandal. Those circumstances were dramatically different than the decision that was made today on All The Money In The World.

The decision to cut out the House of Cards star comes hard on the heels of a sexual harassment scandal involving producer Harvey Weinstein.

Former television news anchor Heather Unruh said that her son did not report the crime at the time, largely out of embarrassment and fear, The Independent wrote.

Actor Anthony Rapp and Harry Dreyfuss (the son of Richard Dreyfuss) have also said the actor assaulted them, and London police said they were investigating a 2008 sexual assault reportedly linked to Spacey.

Vox has reached out to Spacey's representatives for comment.
