  • George Clooney to Return to Television With Catch-22 Limited Series

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Catch-22 will be written by Luke Davies (Lion) and David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) and will run for six episodes.

It will be the second adaptation of the seminal Heller novel, Catch-22 having already been turned into a cult film in 1970 directed by Mike Nichols. It revolves around the paradoxical rules of the time, which dictated that airmen who felt mentally unfit to fly did not have to do so, however anyone who applied to stop flying was deemed sane enough to continue.

Clooney will play Colonel Cathcart in the series, an army commander during World War II who is eager to climb the ranks at any expense. That's the catch-22. His directing credits include Suburbicon, which he also wrote and produced; The Monuments Men, The Ides of March, Leatherheads, Good Night, and Good Luck and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Richard Brown and Steve Golin will executive produce for Anonymous Content along with Clooney and Heslov under their Smokehouse Pictures banner.

Clooney and Heslov are repped by CAA. It's a joint venture of Paramount Television and Anonymous (who also collaborated on 13 Reasons Why and Berlin Station), but the project does not have a network yet.
