energised and confident

But does alcohol type really have such a profound effect on our behaviour? Mark Bellis, of Public Health Wales, one of the study's authors, said moderation was the way forward. You're also, however, pretty likely to feel ill, according to the 47.82 percent response rate for that particular negative emotion.

Not just the men, women also reported that certain type of alcohol helped to achieve the certain type of feelings for them.

Around 59 per cent of the respondents associated spirits - like vodka, gin, whiskey and other hard alcohols - with feelings of energy and confidence.

RG: What population did you study this in? .

A study by Bangor University which examined different emotional responses to alcohol, has found that wine relaxes you, vodka and whisky can make you more aggressive and beer boosts your confidence. They were opportunistic sample, so are not meant to be fully representative of people in each country.

However, this relation is not as casual as it shows up.The emotional state of the person is influenced by his context, sitting, quantity, and type of alcohol.

On the other hand, red wine and beer used to trigger more positive thoughts in the minds of people; no matter they drink from home or outside. Beer was also associated with feeling relaxed and confident, although it was also associated with high levels of feeling exhausted.

To explore links between alcohol preference and emotion, researchers in the United Kingdom made use of data collected in the Global Drug Survey-the world's largest online questionnaire about drug and alcohol use in adults. Heavier drinkers also reported negative emotions more frequently. For instance, spirits are often consumed more quickly and have much higher concentrations of alcohol in them. "This can result in a quicker stimulating effect as blood alcohol levels increase", he explained.

Almost a third (30 per cent) of spirit drinkers associated this tipple with feelings of aggression compared with around 2.5 per cent of red wine drinkers. They found significant differences between different types of drinks. Such prices can encourage consumption at levels harmful to the health of the drinker and through violence and injuries also represent a risk to the people around them'. For a survey of 29 thousands of young men and women living in 21 countries.

Practically, the researchers think that showing the relationship between drinking and emotions could lead to better ways to help people who may have a drinking problem.

But nearly 50% said spirits made them feel ill, while 30% drew a link with aggression, according to Public Health Wales. The researches noted that the emotions were more likely to be felt by dependent drinkers versus casual drinkers. In addition, self-reported data are only as good as a participant's memory, and the survey didn't ask how quickly they were drinking, what their moods were like before they took the first sip, or if there was something like dancing or drugs involved that may have changed the overall experience.

Even without causative findings, the associations themselves could be useful for researchers working to address alcohol misuse.
