  • Lost 'Doctor Who' Episode Written by Douglas Adams is Resurrected

"My real life was really rather drab compared with the life of Doctor Who when we were making it".

Shada, which was written by Douglas Adams and most famous for creating The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, was abandoned as a result of strike action at the BBC when after it began filming in 1979.

Describing his return to the role, the 83-year-old actor said the Doctor "probably never left me".

By the time Tom Baker stepped into his iconic colorful scarf as the Fourth Doctor, this junking policy had been put to a stop.

Tom Baker is returning to Doctor Who to finish a lost episode of the show from 38 years ago. Unfortunately, strikes wracked Britain for months and the episode was put on the backburner, with some of the existing footage later used in the Doctor Who 20th anniversary special.

Daniel Hill, who was at the beginning of his acting career when he was cast in Shada, said he was thrilled to see it on screen at last.

Almost four decades later, BBC Worldwide is set to release a new version of "Shada" that blends original footage with new color animations and voiceovers by OG cast members Baker and Lalla Ward (who played companion Romana II).

To complete the journey back to the past, the producers of "Shada" filmed Baker in a recreation of his TARDIS, shot the scenes on vintage 1970s cameras and even got hold of a model of the Doctor's faithful dog K-9 to boot.

Shada, which has been released as a download, was a run of episodes meant to mark the end of the 17th series, but the studio scenes were never completed.

First off, he turned up in non-canon multi-Doctor special "Dimensions in Time", which aired as part of the 1993 Children in Need celebrations.

The episode sees Baker's Doctor head to Cambridge to fight an evil alien named Skagra.

"When I was doing Doctor Who it was the realization of all my childhood fantasies...so I took to it like a duck to water and I still do", Baker revealed.
