White House to ban personal cell phones over security concerns

According to a report published on Monday by Bloomberg, the White House is so anxious about leaks making their way to the media and foreign governments, that White House staffers may be disallowed from using their personal mobile phones to communicate.
But Bloomberg News said the possible ban was driven more by concerns about cyber-security.
Phones issued by the White House are hardened by the government and aren't able to send text messages, Bloomberg reported.
Staff members worry that they could not reach friends or family while working.
At least five Trump administration officials, who spoke anonymously because the ban isn't final, said employees were anxious that the rule would block them from communicating with family and friends, Bloomberg reported on Monday.
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly is said to be leading the push for the ban.
The purported proposal isn't final, and neither are important details like when to impose the ban, and if all executive office staff would have to comply. In addition to being unable to text or email family during the day, some are scared to use White House issued phones to make calls to check on things at home for fear that they would be accused of using government paid for services for their own personal benefits.
People opposed to the idea also note that government record-keeping requirements mean that records of personal calls placed to and from a work mobile phone would be archived and eventually made public.
Back then, White House's tech support department concluded that the Kelly's phone had been hacked.
The White House took precautionary measures, and employees are now required to leave their phones in cubbies when attending meetings that involve sensitive matters. Instead, they were assigned "burner" phones in case they became compromised by a cyberattack. Spicer warned his staff that using encrypted messaging apps like Signal and Confide were violations of the Presidential Records Act.
