  • Pep Guardiola explains Nathan Redmond row at full-time after Southampton win

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been asked for his observations by the Football Association following his animated discussion with Southampton midfielder Nathan Redmond after Wednesday's Premier League game.

Despite Raheem Sterling's 96th minute victor against Southampton, most of the post-match talk has been around what was said between Guardiola and Redmond.

He has until 6 p.m. GMT on Monday, Dec. 4, to respond.

Guardiola telling Redmond, who opened the scoring in a 1-1 draw at Etihad Stadium last season, he should attack more has led to accusations in some quarters that the City boss was disrespectful towards Mauricio Pellegrino and the tactics employed to near success by his former Barcelona team-mate. I admire Redmond as a play and I thank him for his comments.

Taking to Twitter, Redmond wrote: "Yes he was very passionate, intense and aggressive but he was only very complimentary and positive to me".

He added: "I told him I was doing what my manager had asked me to do in the game".

"I want to make it absolutely clear Pep Guardiola did not say what the Sun is falsely claiming in this story", Redmond said.

Guardiola was seen yelling at Redmond just moments after Raheem Sterling last-gasp victor and some reports claimed the Spaniard had called the forward a "w****r". "Last season he destroyed us here".

"I didn't see anything, because after the finish I went to the dressing room as quickly as possible", said Pellegrino, of Guardiola's full-time flashpoint with Redmond.

Guardiola insisted that his aggression was as a result of Southampton's time-wasting. I just wanted them to play'.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola talks to Southampton's Nathan Redmond, who looks dejected, at the end of the match. All the managers want to help their players because if they play bad we'll be sacked. But they didn't want to play, they were time wasting from the ninth minute.

"Losing the game the way we did in the last kick of the game after working so hard for 90-plus minutes, I was very disappointed".

Guardiola has previous in terms of animated on-field encounters, most famously with Joshua Kimmich after his Bayern Munich team drew 0-0 with Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park in 2016.
