NASA will be revealing major breakthroughs from its alien-hunting programme that could give potential clues about the alien life. "The idea is that if advanced alien civilizations build planet-sized megastructures - solar panels, ring worlds, telescopes, beacons, whatever - Kepler might be able to distinguish them from planets", Wright wrote in a blog post.

NASA said in a release it will announce "the latest discovery made by its planet-hunting Kepler space telescope".

NASA added: "The discovery was made by researchers using machine learning from Google".

The agency said the media teleconference will be held on Thursday at 1 pm EST (1800 GMT) to talk about a discovery made by the Kepler space telescope, which was launched in March 2009 to search for alien worlds.

Thanks to Kepler's treasure trove of discoveries, astronomers now believe there may be at least one planet orbiting every star in the sky.
There are 30 in habitable zones, meaning they exist at the right distance from their nearest stars to possibly host extraterrestrial life.

It completed its primary mission in 2012, when two of the four reaction wheels used to position the telescope failed. It confirmed the existence of 2,337 exoplanets and 4,496 possible candidates. It contemplated planets around stars categorized as bright M Dwarfs in the environs of the Sun. This has afforded new opportunities to research not only exoplanets, but also young stars, supernovae, and other celestial bodies.

Christopher Shallue, an engineer with Google AI and Google Brain wil be featured during the NASA press conference alongside scientists from NASA, its Kepler team and NASA Sagan Fellow Andrew Vanderburg from the University of Texas.

Cagey on the details, NASA's press release states that machine learning "demonstrates new ways of analyzing Kepler data".
