The arrival of Android 8.1 Oreo brings an exciting new augmented reality feature Google calls AR Stickers -- movable animated figures that you can place in photos and videos.

JB Hi-Fi is also adding in another bonus, if you buy a Pixel 2 or 2 XL you'll get a free Google Home Mini. The advanced AR technology allows a realistic presence of these sticker characters in images and videos.

Google recently rolled out Android 8.1 Oreo update to supported Pixel and Nexus devices, and the AR Stickers are available only for Pixel and PIxel 2 smartphones running Android 8.1 Oreo.

Provided you have the necessary hardware, though, using AR Stickers is simple and easy. The Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi pack consists of porgs, BB-8, R2-D2, a First Order Stormtrooper, BB-9E, and even an AT-M6. The AR stickers work in a fashion similar how live filters work on apps like Snapchat, Instagram. This could be down to ARCore shunning the need for a depth sensor, or simply indicate that the underlying AR framework is in its early days.

The thing AR Stickers is it's limited to only the Pixel and Pixel 2.

The camera app on Google's Pixel lineup has just got better with the addition of the much-talked-about AR Stickers. Now the app is available Pixel users running Android 8.1 Oreo.

Adding stickers to scenes is simple, just open the camera app, switch to the AR stickers mode, choose your pack and start placing characters into your shots.

Before venturing into the Google camera app in search of AR Stickers, make sure that you have updated it. Individuals can update their apps through the Google Play Store, under the Update section. Which means it will be activated only if you recharge or update plan once SIM is placed in the Pixel 2 XL device, and in case the customer removes the SIM from the eligible device, the benefits will cease. Google will release more AR Sticker packs in the future. You can move, resize and rotate the stickers, and they interact with other characters in the scene. SmartSelect can recognise addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and more. Enabling this will let you superimpose a bunch of Augmented Reality objects in your surroundings and capture pictures or selfies with them.
