Ryanair has offered to meet with IMPACT on Tuesday, and has called on the unions to call off threatened action next week.

Confirmation that the meeting with Impact will now take place Tuesday in advance of the Wednesday deadline was confirmed by Ryanair on Saturday.

Unions were yet to give their response but Ryanair's chief executive, Michael O'Leary, said: "Christmas flights are very important to our customers and we wish to remove any worry or concern that they may be disrupted by pilot industrial action next week".

Ryanair has agreed to recognise pilots' unions in an attempt to avert Christmas strikes in a "significant change" from its long-standing position.

In October, Mr O'Leary wrote to his airline's pilots to offer them better pay and conditions after Ryanair was forced to cancel thousands of flights.

Ryanair earlier said British union BALPA and Italian union ANPAC had agreed to meet with Ryanair in early January.

Shots fired on Penn State's Beaver campus
Pennsylvania State Police tell the station the shooting is being investigated as a possible murder-suicide. The woman was 49-year-old Leslie Kelly, of Ohioville, who worked in food services at Penn State Beaver.

The pilots had backed industrial action by a margin of 94 per cent to six per cent in secret ballots.

The Impact trade union is looking for further reassurances from the airline before calling off its planned walkout on Wednesday.

It said it would "not engage with pilots who fly for competitor airlines in Ireland or elsewhere".

It will bring certainty to Ryanair passengers travel plans over the Christmas period.

In Spain, there are no strikes planned for pilots, but ground staff unions have not ruled out action on December 30.

Ryanair has sought a meeting with the Irish Airline Pilots' Association on that day, according to The Independent.
