It's hardly the Dodgers going to Los Angeles, but another major sports franchise is leaving Brooklyn. The Islanders moved out of their previous home, the Nassau County Veterans Coliseum, in 2015, and now play in Brooklyn's Barclay's Center. Gov. Andrew Cuomo is slated to attend.

The Islanders have been seeking an alternative to the Barclays Center, which became the team's home in the 2015-16 season.

The NHL team beat out a bid from the New York City FC soccer team, which envisioned building a stadium on the site just east of New York City. An effort to get a new arena built, to replace Nassau Coliseum, proved fruitless and fostered a move to a modern arena that had dates to fill. The move to the Brooklyn arena was greeted with displeasure by fans, who always considered the team to be a Long Island staple. Since the move, the team has failed to gain traction with fans in Brooklyn and is last in average attendance this year in the league.

Since moving into the basketball-focused Brooklyn facility three years ago after a 43-year run at Nassau Coliseum, the Islanders have faced many difficulties including poor ice conditions and bad sightlines for hockey fans. He expected to return to that number in the new arena.

They attracted an average home attendance of almost 30,000 at Yankee Stadium in their inaugural campaign but that slipped to 22,643 in 2017. But that place will be ours.

He continued, "The attack was widespread and cost billions, and North Korea is directly responsible". Pyongyang has previously denied being responsible for the attack.

The New York Islanders have been awarded the right to develop Belmont Park, according to people close to the negotiations.

"This will be more than an arena", he said.

"It is a win for the community, big economic development initiative".

The Islanders taking the built-in option to ditch their lease before February 2018-in the middle of only their third season in Brooklyn-comes as a surprise to absolutely no one.

New York City FC, which now plays at Yankee Stadium, was also interested in the site, Bloomberg Sports reported Tuesday.
