Some Hollywood women are planning to wear all black to the upcoming 75th annual Golden Globes on Januart 8 as a way to protest sexual harassment in their industry, People magazine reported.

Streep has since said that Weinstein ensured that she was unaware of his actions and that she had "sat by that phone all day" waiting to hear from McGowan after making sure she had Streep's home telephone number.

McGowan specifically name-checked Meryl Streep, whom she also criticized on social media last week.

Streep, who released a statement condemning Weinstein's alleged behavior shortly after reports of his behavior made news, says it was painful to read McGowan's comments. McGowan, who has accused Weinstein of rape, has been a leading voice in the conversation around the Weinstein allegations and #MeToo both as an activist and survivor.

The tweet thread comes in response to McGowan who said actresses like Meryl Streep and others reportedly participating in the silent protest were "the problem".

"YOUR SILENCE is THE problem", she added. I despise your hypocrisy.

Tamblyn added, "You don't have to support and stand with us, but we stand and support you. Maybe you should all wear [Weinstein's wife's fashion line] Marchesa".

I didn't know about these other offenses: "I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts", Streep said in her statement. "I spoke to her for over an hour". I love Rose fiercely, that will never change. You actually gave me a body flashback.

But McGowan said the "silent protest" is nothing more than a hollow gesture some are engaging in to make themselves feel better about not speaking out earlier, and to look virtuous in front of fans. "Well done, fake one", McGowan tweeted. When she won the Golden Globe for her role in the film, Streep jokingly called Weinstein "god" in her acceptance speech.

Damon said: "I do believe that there's a spectrum of behaviour and we're going to have to figure, you know, there's a difference between patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation", he said.
