Officials with the Department for Public Health say for the first time this season, flu activity in Kentucky is now considered widespread, the highest level of flu activity.

Doctors say a typical flu season in Oklahoma usually runs from October to May.

The week ending December 8 saw 338 cases reported, and last week saw 1,041 cases, more than triple the previous week, according to a city press release. So, the CDC said it's possible you could still get the flu even if you received the vaccine, but the flu would not be as severe.

Hospital administrators contend that most local health care professionals and numerous national organizations are united in the belief that requiring a vaccine or a mask protects patients not only from the flu but life-threatening complications. ADH noted that it only receives "a fraction" of the actual flu cases, so the overall burden of the illness could be higher.

Symptoms of influenza include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.

Earlier this month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared that influenza is now widespread in CT.

The 2016-2017 Montana flu season saw 56 deaths and more than 800 hospitalizations. The flu virus can spread a day before symptoms develop, and five to seven days after becoming sick.

"Although many of our staff are fortunate to enjoy excellent health, even healthy individuals can get very sick from the flu and spread the disease to others", stated the release.

Shots take about two weeks to take full effect.
