  • Arrest made in connection with swatting case that killed Kansas man

25-year-old Tyler Barriss has been arrested by the Los Angeles police, NBC News reports, and is believed to be the one responsible for calling Wichita and sending law enforcement to the home of the victim, 28-year-old Andrew Finch. "They'll call and get a SWAT team dispatched to the house so they can actually watch on camera".

The people who make the call, the "swatters", can do it through a number of ways.

The Finch family on Friday allowed reporters inside their home.

According to posts on Twitter, two gamers were arguing when one threatened to target the other with a swatting call.

A relative of Andrew Finch's told the Wichita Eagle that the victim didn't play video games. At the time of writing, Swautistic's Twitter account has been suspended. The intended victim tweeted after the shooting, "Someone tried to swat me and got an innocent man killed". A caller claiming to be SWAuTistic also participated in an interview with the YouTube channel Drama Alert in which he admitted to SWATting Finch's address. Barriss has been previously arrested for allegedly phoning in bomb threats.

Livingston said that injured man was 28 years old.

The prank is becoming quite popular with online gamers across the country. It is also yet another example of the poor training and resulting police brutality that's endemic in the United States. Finch's mother said her son was not a gamer.

Study says more pregnant women are smoking marijuana for morning sickness
The legalization of marijuana may have contributed to the increase in use found by the study, KABC reported . The study suggests that more women tend to use marijuana sometimes to sooth anxiety and morning sickness.

'That was the information we were working off of, ' Deputy Wichita Police Chief Troy Livingston said to theWichita Eagle. "Why didn't they give him the same warning they gave us?" "That cop murdered my son over a false report in the first place".

The Wichita police department issued their own statement on the incident.

"Officers gave him several verbal commands to put his hands up and walk towards them". But at some point, authorities said he moved toward his waistband and officers fired a single shot in fear Finch may have reached for a gun. "The incident was a nightmare for everyone involved, including the family and our police department".

"We woke this morning to frightful news about an innocent man losing his life", UMG spokeswoman Shannon Gerritzen said in an email to The Associated Press.

"The person who made the phone call took my nephew. two kids' father", Mr Finch's aunt, Lorrie Hernandez-Caballero, told the Eagle. "It heightened the awareness of the officers, and we think it lead to this deadly encounter". A SWAT team was dispatched to the scene. Police shootings in the US are astronomically higher than those in other developed countries, and they aren't even all reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. "It's completely illegal. It wastes resources that could be used by the police department in other ways".

This is a horrific incident in every way. That became a heated argument with one gamer contacting a friend who has swatted people before. This was an entirely preventable death, caused by a stranger's malice and a national crisis of police violence. No one should die because a police officer got jumpy. It should never have happened.
