The move comes as part of Facebook's Journalism Project Initiative, a program the company announced in January 2017 that seeks to build out local news partnerships, among other goals.

The immensely popular social network for millennials and users of all ages, Facebook is on a drive to ease out the availability of local news from vetted sources for its user base.

Social media giant Facebook has launched a new product called "Today in" that aims to push local news and information to those with a profile on the platform.

CNET reported today that the test is now live for a new section called "Today In" across six U.S. cities.

The project is part of Facebook's Journalism Project initiative, which it launched a year ago following the 2016 presidential election. This section is being tested in five cities of America however the company plans to launch it globally once its gets approved in its test phase. The feature will be available for users through the bottom-right menu button on Facebook. In his "New Year Challenge" CEO?Mark Zuckerberg said that this year he will focus on dealing with abuse and hate, fake news or interference by nation-states on the platform.

According to a report by TechCrunch, Facebook is calling this feature "Today In" and testing it in select markets.
