Le'Veon Bell says he would sit out over franchise tag

  • Le'Veon Bell has scored 11 touchdowns this season helping the Steelers to the AFC Divisional playoff round

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell said that, if handed the franchise tag for the second straight year, he would consider sitting out the 2018 season or retiring.

"I hope it doesn't come to that", Bell told ESPN in Pittsburgh. On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers running back was quoted as saying that if the Steelers franchise him again, retirement is an option (which you can read about here).

Bell had 1,844 scrimmage yards, 11 total touchdowns and 85 receptions this past season, so he has a valid point about be valued.

A future meeting of the teams would do nothing to change the outcome of 2017, but it'd still be fun, and fun things are good. The Knights defeated the Crimson Tide 40-38 back in 2000 in the first and only meeting between the two schools.

Google bought a United Kingdom startup that turns screens into speakers
The reason was simple: in the ongoing fight to make thinner smartphones that pack in more and more tech, space is at a premium. It could also improve waterproofing for future phones since it eliminates the need for speaker holes.

Bell said the Steelers must show that they value him in this offseason's contract negotiations. Any team trading for him knows what he wants to earn - last offseason, Bell suggested that he should be paid as the top running back and receive a salary boost that pays him like a top-12 receiver, considering his rare pass-catching prowess. After that, they have until July 16 to work out a long-term contract. But that's exactly what they have following Le'Veon Bell's comments Thursday about his future with the team. The two sides could not come together on a deal, however, and Bell ended up holding out for the entire preseason before ultimately signing his tender shortly before the season.

"We understand we have a great group here", said Bell, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. He added that he'd "probably be done" playing football if he sat out all of 2018. "I can care less about what happens after this season...my biggest thing I'm focused on is this team I'm on right now, playing for/with my brothers, & bringing back a 7th ring! what happens next year is irrelevant to my goals". "I'm not going to settle for anything", Bell said. "They tag me again, it will be me [saying], 'OK, do I want to play on the tag or do I not want to play on the tag?' That's what it comes down to. I'm not going out here getting the ball 400 times if I'm not getting what I feel I'm valued at".

Well, after a career full of highlight reels and plenty of talent left in the tank, Bell is looking for money.
