A St. Louis Cardinals game postponed after positive coronavirus tests

The MLB Network was the first to report Friday’s postponement. The MLB did not identify the two Cardinals who tested positive.

For now, Friday’s game at Milwaukee’s Miller Park – which was to be the Brewers ’home opener for the season – has been rescheduled as part of a headheader for next Sunday.

This is “consistent with protocols that allow enough time for additional testing and contact tracking,” MLB said Friday.

A Saturday game between the two clubs was still scheduled for early Friday afternoon.

“We support Major League Baseball’s decision to postpone today’s game and look forward to playing our home opener as soon as conditions allow safely,” David Stearns, Brewers general manager and president of baseball operations, he said Friday.

“The health and safety of our players and employees are, and continue to be, our top priorities,” Stearns said.

Marlins and Phillies also had positive tests

Coronavirus-related postponements began after members of the Miami Marlins landed with Covid-1

MLB Phillies say two workers tested positive for coronavirus after playing Marlins

After Miami opened the season against the Philadelphia Phillies last week, several Marlins players tested positive. Despite the results, both teams agreed to play the third game of the July 26 series.

Then more Marlins members turned out to be positive, and the Marlins season held Sunday at least.

As of Friday, 18 Marlins players and two coaches have been positive, a source within the team told CNN on condition of anonymity.

The Phillies also saw most of their games postponed. First, because they were playing for the Marlins, Philadelphia’s games with the New York Yankees this week were postponed cautiously.

Then, the Philadelphia games against the Toronto Blue Jays this weekend were postponed after two Phillies staff members tested positive.

The shortened MLB season is being played without fans and has new rules, including a ban on high-end eyeballs and saliva, to prevent the spread of the virus.

Infected marlins are headed to Florida for further screening, a source says

The 20 Marlins players and staff who tested positive were traveling on Friday on several buses to South Florida, where they will receive additional screening and testing, the source said within -team to CNN.

Major League Baseball health officials approved the move, the source said.

The Marlins have been isolated and quarantined at a team hotel in Philadelphia since their last game there on July 26. Team members who have not yet tested positive remained at Philadelphia Week, the source said .
