ACC 2020 football schedule: Notre Dame joins league for 11 games in one non-conference tournament

The ACC made its decision on college football this fall, as well as on the other falling Olympic sport. The conference announced Wednesday that its football season will begin playing during the week of September 7, originally scheduled as Week 2 of the 2020 season. ACC teams – along with member partial tournament Notre Dame – will play 11 games, including 10 ACC contests and one non-conference game against an opponent staying in the home state of the tournament members.

“Today’s decision was made after months of thoughtful planning by several individuals during the conference,” ACC commissioner John Swofford said in a statement. “The Board̵

7;s decision presents a path, if public health guidance allows, to move forward with competition. Our institutions are committed to taking the necessary measures to facilitate safe return. and we are responsible. We recognize that we may need to be nimble and make adjustments in the future. We will be as prepared as possible if the need arises. “

Notre Dame will take part in the festivities and play a full schedule of 10 ACC conference games, making it eligible to compete in the ACC Championship Games as 15 temporary conference members in 2020. The ACC championship will be contested between the two teams at the top of the standings as the ACC will not play with divisions in 2020. The ACC Championship Games will be played on either December 12 or December 19 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Notre Dame’s non-conference games continue to be televised on NBC, and the accumulated television revenue – both from Notre Dame and the other 14 ACC schools – it will be spread and evenly distributed among the 15 schools.

The complete schedule, which the ACC says “will be released in the future,” will be at least 13 weeks long, allowing each team two open dates. They are either used as weeks off or as many replacement dates as possible if there are interruptions.

As far as non-conference games each team will play, the programs are in control of scheduling those contests; however, all non-conference games must be played in the home state of the ACC school. This preserves games of the brand’s potential annual rivals such as Florida State-Florida, Louisville-Kentucky, Georgia Tech-Georgia and Clemson-South Carolina.

Outside of football, the ACC has announced plans for its fall Olympic sport. The seasons for field hockey, women’s soccer, men’s soccer and volleyball will begin on Thursday, September 10th. All schools play a conference schedule that meets the minimum amount of NCAA games but can schedule additional games against conference opponents or non-conference. discretion as long as potential opponents “meet ACC medical standards”. Any additional games against conference opponents that are not part of the schedules given by the conference are not counted in the ACC standings.

The ACC also announced that sports such as swimming and diving, indoor track and field and fencing are postponed until at least 10 September. All fall competition in sports such as golf, tennis, rowing, lacrosse, softball and baseball have been canceled. Practice in all sports will be allowed at the discretion of each school.
