During today’s testimony before a congressional antitrust panel, Mark Zuckerberg ended up off the script a bit – at least the script we were expecting ̵1; and pointed out how Facebook Inc. lags behind a number of competitors, including Alphabet Inc., Amazon.com Inc. and Apple Inc.
Zuckerberg doesn’t hesitate to use any sharp elbows, pointing out that Amazon is the fastest growing advertising platform and that Google is the largest.
“In many areas, we are behind our competitors,” Zuckerberg said. “The most popular messaging service in the United States is iMessage. The fastest growing app is TikTok. The most popular video app is YouTube. The fastest growing advertising platform “Amazon. Google’s biggest advertising platform. And for every dollar spent on advertising in the United States, we spend less than ten cents.”
That’s why executives likely preferred to appear suddenly – allowing them to shed weight. The antitrust case against Google and Facebook is far more powerful than the one against Apple, for example.
