Sony is celebrating another successful PS4 exclusive launch, this time praising the early sales success of Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima.
The new open-world IP sold more than 2.4 million copies in the first three days of launch. This makes it Sony’s newest original sales IP, with the previous record of Horizon Zero Dawn. This also puts Ghost of Tsushima ahead of other PS4 exclusives, such as Bloodborne, Days Gone, and Knack in terms of initial sales. Yes, he managed to beat Knack, the biggest game all the time.
Ghost of Tsushima is now the fastest selling original first part of the debut IP series with over 2.4 million units sold globally in the first 3 days of sales.

This figure is still well below what Sony has seen with sequels to established first-party titles. The Last of Us: Part Two, launched in June, sold more than 4 million copies in its first three days, ahead of Marvel’s Spider-Man record holder who sold 3.3 million copies in the same period. Both games are also slated to receive a follow-up on the PS5, with Spider-Man: Miles Morales launching later this year and the Forbidden Horizon from the West coming in 2021. With the massive installation base of the PS4, however, it is unlikely that early PS5 gaming will be able to hit those high figures.
Ghost of Tsushima is Sucker Punch’s first new IP since its launch on Infamous in 2009, and its first game since the release of First Infamous Light, a stand-alone expansion for Infamous Second Son, in 2014. Although it was a rather routine romp for the open world, it still manages to excite with its establishment, with our 7/10 Ghost of Tsushima review saying, “Ghost of Tsushima is at its best when you’re riding the horse and take in the beautiful world according to your own, armed with a sword and a screenshot button, allowing your own environmental forecasts and curiosity to guide you. ”
