If you’ve been hoping that Google will release Pixel 5 XL this fall along with the Pixel 5, consider that your hopes will come to naught. And it was Google that took the last blow.
Google has yet to announce anything official about its Pixel 5 plans, of course. Instead, he is leaving his software updates to the speaker. And an update of the Camera app included in the latest Android 11 beta lists the upcoming Pixel Phones to be able to run the updated software – the Pixel 5 XL is not among the list.
9to5Google Credit with this detective works to dig into the Google Camera 7.5 update to see what̵7;s coming in the Google camera app. The Pixel 5 is mentioned in the app, as are the Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a XL, which seem to confirm that all those models will be shipped this year. In the same vein, the lack of the Pixel 5 XL seems to confirm that it is the MIA.
Despite the Pixel 5 XL rendering a surface, it is rumored for some time that Google is putting its larger Pixel on the cutting block. Instead, the latest buzz suggests it will be a 5G version of the Pixel 4a that joins the Pixel 5 later this fall. (Of course, for that scenario to happen, we must first see the Pixel 4a, and that intended launch will be pushed back.)
The Camera 7.5 update also includes ideas for new features that will come for Pixel phones, including Google’s upcoming releases. Embedded in the update is the Motion Blur mode which will combine other camera modes such as Night Sight and Portrait. Motion Blur sounds like it will be able to focus on a specific topic, even if it’s moving – think of sports photos and other activities where the person you’re recording isn’t standing perfectly.
An audio feature of the increase in the Camera 7.5 update sounds that you will be able to direct the microphone of the phones when uploading a video to the home on anyone who has zoomed in. Other features discovered by 9to5Google include an adjustable flash camera and the ability to share videos more easily. This latest feature extends an existing capability with still images where you can tap a button inside the viewer to share your latest picture to various social media sites and services. The Room 7.5 update lists 25 such services that will be able to quickly share video.
The Google Pixel 4a is set to launch on August 3, meaning we should be just days away from unveiling Google’s next big phone. Those waiting for the Pixel 5 will likely have to hold on until the fall.
