Fox News contributor Guy Benson responded on Twitter Wednesday to a new ad from The Lincoln Project, a group of onetime Republican political advisers, who pitter-pattered Susan Collins, R-Maine, as a “betrayal” supporter of the President Trump.
“[T]is the notion that * Susan stands out Collins * is a Trump Bot who is a treacher who never joins the party and who is controlled by men is a playful insult, “tweeted Benson, the host of Fox News Radio. Guy Benson Show “.” As a conservative, I have been frustrated with her votes many times over the years … ”
Benson did not call the Lincoln Project by name, instead referred to them as “the [clown] crew. “
Entitled “Trump Stooge,” the ad reaches out to Collins as “fraud” and says its “voice” is controlled by Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
“Susan Collins never stands out with Donald Trump,” the narrative says in the commercial. “That̵7;s why Maine was made with its weakness and excuses.”
NEVER CROSS LINE TRUMPERS WITH PARTY OPERATIONS WITH GOP SENATORS
The poll indicates that Collins is facing a close race against Democrat Sara Gideon in the November election. Collins, who is seeking his fifth Senate term, is a Republican only from New England in the current Congress.
Collins received national attention in the fall of 2018 when he voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh in the Supreme Court amid national controversy over allegations of sexual misconduct against the nominee. Earlier this year, she voted to release Trump in the Senate impeachment process, but described the president’s behavior when he treated Ukraine as “bad” and frustrated some members of her own party by joined the Democrats to pressure to hear from former National Security Adviser John Bolton.
“On [sic] the biggest two blows against her voting record (Kavanaugh’s confirmation & impeachment release), she offered detailed and thoughtful explanations – and voted the same way she did when the Dem presidents were in office, “Benson said in a subsequent tweet” “Conservatives” are trying to have her zero credibility. Nothing. “
