Los Angeles Dodgers rescue pitcher Joe Kelly was suspended from Major League Baseball for eight games on Wednesday after intentionally shooting Houston Astros players Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa.
During the sixth inning of the Dodgers ’5-2 win over Houston at Minute Maid Park on Tuesday, the benches cleared up after Kelly’s actions. This was the first game between the two clubs since the Astros were accused of stealing signs on their way to the 2017 World Series title. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has been suspended for one game, and Astros manager Dusty Baker has been fined an undisclosed amount.
Kelly has been elected to appeal and may continue to play until the process is complete. Roberts was due to serve his suspension Wednesday when the Dodgers played in Houston. Kelly, a hard-working spearman with a wild nature, had been suspended in his career for throwing in a batter.
DODGERS, ASTROS BENCHES CLEAR AFTER JOE KELLY BUZZES ALEX BREGMAN AND CARLOS CORREA
The Dodgers ’stagnant animosity toward the Astros ̵1; who were penalized by MLB in the summer after their hoax came to light – were brewing. It boomed when Bregman, the Astros ’running star for their league, came to the cool at the bottom of six on Tuesday evening.
The Dodgers led 5-2 when Kelly, who was with Boston in 2017 and also faced Houston that postseason, zipped the 3-0 fastball behind Bregman’s header. Bregman rushes after jumping to avoid being hit, then trots to first base.
There were two outs in the inning when Kelly threw a ball over Correa’s head. Correa, who homered and finished with three hits, removed his batting helmet and looked Kelly down before continuing to at-bat.
Kelly hit Correa to end the inning, then stuck his tongue out and made his face in his direction. Correa started walking towards him and the players exchanged words, leading the benches to clear up in the first such incident of this season that delayed the pandemic.
MARLINS CORONAVIRUS RESULT MAY BE CAUSED BY CITY PEOPLE, MLB INSIDER PUSHERS
There was a lot of shouting and a crowd – illegal as MLB tries to play a 60-game season amid the pandemic – but there was no pushing or punching.
Kelly denied that he intentionally shot at the Astros. He was asked if there is any added motivation on Tuesday as the Red Sox team lost to Houston in the 2017 AL Division Series.
“No. When I was with the Red Sox we beat them in ’18, “he said. “It’s one of those things that I remember competitively. There are no fans here, it’s easy to hear some things (from the opposite digout) … there’s something that apparently didn’t take too much into them. . “
Houston was punished by the commissioners ’office in January for the signal theft scheme, which led to the shooting of general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch.

Many players around the league were happy that no player was disciplined for their roles in cheating. The Dodgers had harsh words for the Astros during spring training, but Roberts said before the game that he didn’t think his team would retaliate.
The penalties were imposed by former pitcher Chris Young, MLB’s senior vice president for baseball operations. This was the first case of his discipline since he took the job from Joe Torre.
