The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to increase help for Tom Brady.
On Thursday, the team signed veteran running back LeSean McCoy for a one-year deal, according to ESPN̵7;s Adam Schefter.
“He’s very excited to play with established veterinarians like Brady and Gronk when he tries to win another league,” said his agent, Drew Rosenhaus.
Buffalo Bills released Last August, McCoy saved them $ 6,425 million, per Kevin Patra of the NFL.com. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs shortly thereafter.
Kansas City signed Carlos Hyde to help fill the gap left by Kareem Hunt but quickly soured on him. The Chiefs appointed him in business for the Houston Texans, who paved the way for McCoy’s arrival.
McCoy gave no relief as he had to carry with Damien Williams, but was productive in his limited role. He ran for 465 yards and four touchdowns on 101 carries and caught 28 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown.
Among the 45 running backs with at least 100 carries, McCoy was 28th in DYAR (defense-adjusted yards above substitution) Foreign Football.
Kansas City selected Clyde Edwards-Helaire in the 32nd overall pick, all but the chances of a meeting with McCoy.
The average yards per McCoy dropped from 4.0 in 2017 to 3.2 in 2018 before the Bills continued. He is also the third most active player in total (2,950), so he has many miles on his body.
By managing his workload, the Chiefs helped McCoy stay effective. His 4.6 yards per carry were the second-highest since 2013, his most recent All-Pro season.
This should be the blueprint for the Bucs. He will compete with rookie Ke’Shawn Vaughn to support Ronald Jones II, and Tampa Bay could look to expand his role in the passing game compared to his season in Kansas City.
Due to Jones ’inconsistency in his young career, McCoy could play a sizeable role for the Bucs.
