Michigan limits the meetings, closing the bars among spike COVID-19



Michigan will limit indoor meetings to 10 people and prohibit indoor service in bars as the state experiences a spike in coronavirus cases, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) announced Wednesday.

Whitmer’s order allows casinos in the state to reopen on Aug. 5, but they can only operate at 15 percent capacity. Casinos should also require daily temperature screening for employees and customers, in addition to accepting that patrons wear a mask or face cover, among other restrictions.

The Michigan governor said the tip in COVID-19 cases in the state was “associated with super-spill events at large social gatherings.” She pointed to an outbreak at Lansing bar that resulted in 187 infections and a part of the house that was linked to more than 50 cases, in addition to other major events “often attended by young people.”

Michigan has documented at least 89,026 cases of coronavirus across the state, as well as 6,426 deaths.
