EXCLUSIVE: In what is believed to be her latest TV appearance, Naya Rivera will be featured in an episode from Season 3 of Netflix’s reality series baking competition. Sugar Rush, which will be released Friday.
Back in February, a few weeks before all production land was set up, the Glee alumna filmed an appearance of a guest judge on Sugar Rush in Los Angeles, seated alongside exhibition host Hunter March and professional judges Candace Nelson and Adriano Zumbo. This was the last thing Rivera fired before the closure of Hollywood coronavirus production, now in its fifth month.
Netflix on June 24 announced a premiere date of July 31 for the new season of Sugar Rush, of the brand Extra sweetness. A couple of weeks later, Rivera disappeared while swimming with her son in Lake Piru north of Los Angeles. Her body was recovered July 13 and put to rest on July 24. She was 33 years old.
Following Rivera’s death, Netflix was faced with a dilemma over what to do with its footage. After careful consideration after consulting with Rivera’s manager, Gladys Gonzalez, who worked closely with the actress’ family after Rivera’s death, a decision was made to move forward and get rid of the episode as planned.
The episode is dedicated to Rivera, with a note on the screen honoring the actress who appears before the opening credits.
Sugar Rush is produced by Elves Magical.
