Running a PlayStation website can often lower our perspective when it comes to the wider gaming industry. But from where we are, we feel that there is already momentum for the PlayStation 5 – something that the Xbox Series X hardly has outside of hardcore circles. And new research, as reported by the MCV, brings some statistical support to this theory.
A “broad” survey by pop culture agency Experience12 suggests that Sony’s next console is winning the next popularity battle by some distance. More than 3,000 people were invited to the MCM Comic Con online events in late June, and 84 percent of participants said they were more excited for the PS5 on the Xbox X Series.
The data is not based on a massive Sample size, but still makes for interesting reading, and maybe it’s a bigger picture microcosm. The most eyebrow-raising is said to be that only 37 percent of people said they plan to buy a console next to the side during the launch later this year.
It is also worth noting that the majority of these participants said that PS4 is their preferred platform of the current generation. 59 percent swear by Sony’s system, while only 16 percent went with Xbox One, 14 percent said PC, and 8 percent pointed to Nintendo Switch. Most of these people will stick to the PlayStation, it seems.
