Health officials in San Luis Obispo reported Thursday that two other county residents died as a result of COVID-19, bringing the death toll in the county to 14.
Health officials said the two individuals were vulnerable to serious complications of COVID-19 because they were in their 80s, had underlying health conditions and were living in a joint living facility they were experiencing.
According to local health officials, one of the individuals was staying at an assisted living facility in Atascadero, while the other spent several days in hospital and was a resident at the Vineyard Hills Health Center in ̵6;Templeton, which marked the sixth related to COVID-19. death linked to that facility.
“Our community has been hit by further losses,” said Dr. Penny Borenstein, San Luis Obispo County health officer. “This, and other outbreaks, can be prevented. Let’s do everything we can to reduce the spread of COVID-19 to protect the most vulnerable among us.”
The San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department is working with facilities to reduce the impact of outbreaks, health officials said.
On Thursday, local health officials reported 1,740 cases of COVID-19, many of which recovered.
